Professional Learning & Technology Innovation Reflection
ITEC 7460 ~ Spring 2018 ~ Dr. Bacon
The information that I was exposed to while participating in this class has helped me as a teacher-coach, peer-coach, and I have also employed some of the strategies in my personal communications. My biggest area of growth was starting to see myself as a coach. Although I started using a lot of sports analogies with my students, it put me in the mindset of seeing myself as a resource of information, not the source of information. The students and I have a partnership where we are each responsible to do our part to effect change.
I did not enjoy the knowledge-based activities (interview my principal for example) as much as I enjoyed the skill-based activities (learning to use the ADDIE model- Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate to create a technology workshop). Both types of assignments were necessary for my overall learning experience. I gained a wealth of knowledge, across grades and content, from the discussions posted by other program participants.
Going forward, I plan to use the Knight text and the Learning Forward site as references. I admit that there were some weeks that I did not think I would make it. The work wasn’t hard. I wasn’t, easy either. I just needed to make sure to carve out enough time to get everything completed. Partnership Communication is the area that I have relied on the most this semester, and there are implications for further use in my current position as a Special Education teacher.
I am interested in attending the information session for teachers who are interested in completing the Coaching Endorsement in Clayton County Schools. I want to know what Clayton looks for when hiring Instructional Coaches. I also figure that participating in this program and completing the endorsement, may increase my chances of transitioning to a coaching position by the conclusion this Instructional Technology (IT) program.
Finally, Dr. Bacon was very good about keeping us on track with assignments. She communicated in a way that complimented my own style of communication (INTP). I appreciated her comments and timely grading of assignments.
Thank you all for your contributions towards my positive learning experience this semester. I appreciate your warmth and kindness from the time I joined your cohort until now. I am looking forward to next semester.
