Vision Paper
Completing the Technology Vision paper was a new experience for me. Having to create a vision that you would like others to embrace and adopt is a lofty responsibility. While having one’s own vision, philosophy, or mission to guide one’s own technology use, it is a total game changer once a leader steps out to place her/ his vision in writing for others to embrace (or reject). Until I made my attempt to outline my technology vision, I had not given it very much thought.
Not only did I have to focus my ideas, but I had to ground them in solid research to give my ideas credibility. I had to identify the stakeholders involved and address how they will play a role in the implementation of and the sustaining effort of having a technology vision.
Finally, undertaking a collaborative effort such as creating a technology vision is new and uncharted territory for many individual schools, because many school administrators only view technology as a resource like a book or as a hands-on manipulative. As administrators start to embrace the importance of technology and how technology can assist students in getting to the next level in their education we will start to see more written vision statements for technology in their schools.
