SWOT
The SWOT (Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats) Analysis was another first for me. When I first heard of it, it sounded scarier than it was to complete. Completing the template took some time because it forced and challenged me to completed it openly and honestly. I knew that some other candidates’ SWOT analysis would look more developed than mine because some of the other candidates’ schools were more advanced in their implementation of technology than my school’s technology implementation and device use. Additionally, I knew that other schools had a greater quantity, and more technology devices than my school.
We still use computers to reward negative student behaviors, and for drill and practice functions in the elementary school where I currently work. Building administrators in my district seem to have a lot of autonomy in how technology is used in their buildings. Therefore; buildings with tech savvy leaders seem to use technology in more productive and creative ways, but the reverse is true of buildings with leaders who are not as tech savvy.
In summary, in the building where I teach, we all need improvement in our technology use. Taking this class has made me aware of digital tools that I had no idea existed. I share with other teachers in the building, but we are all so overwhelmed with other “mandated” and “non-negotiable” tasks, that we hardly have time to experiment with new technology…but I hope to change that!
