Data Inventory/ Excel Tasks 1-3/ Data Overview
The Data Inventory was very similar to the Instructional Initiatives Inventory because I had to list the various ways we collect data on a building level. Granted individual teachers may have other means or methods for data collection, but as a whole we consistently use approximately fifteen to twenty data sources building wide.
The Data Overview, on the other hand allowed me to incorporate several Excel skills I learned during this class. I learned how to disaggregate data based on specific criteria found within an Excel spreadsheet that I can manipulate using specific Excel functions/ commands.
Looking at GMAS data for a whole grade level is daunting, unless you use parameters like viewing by teacher, proficiency level, race, gender, etc. I enjoyed this task and I prepared me to complete the Data Overview.
What I was not prepared for was creating the narrated PowerPoint with a time limit of under ten minutes. Creating the slides, typing the information to explain the findings, and narrating was basically straight forward. When I had to edit the information for time (size), I almost missed my deadline because I ran into a few glitches along the way.
Overall, I these tasks all enjoyable and definitely transferable to other educational positions, not just data coaches.
